This book recounts how I started off with a few X10 modules to control the lights and appliances, and ended up making a video recording of a burglar as he tried to break into my home while I was away on vacation. And you can have the same system! I'll show you what to buy, and how to hook it up, and even more importantly, what to avoid. I've already made all the mistakes, so you won't have to! | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Ladies, you can do it!Aug 27, 2006
By Suzanne Metz As a woman who lives alone, I am hyper-vigilant about safety and security. When I moved into my new home, I couldn't afford an expensive alarm system and monthly monitoring fees. I did some research, looked at other books on the same subject and was very happy to find this book about how to set up a low-cost home security system, using X10 components. I found the book very easy to read and understand, with pictures illustrating every piece of equipment. The author included many personal examples, making it both fun and interesting to read. Now, when someone comes to my door, I can see and hear who is on the other side before opening it. I can even answer the door with my telephone, and talk to whoever is outside. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be safe and secure at home!

A Good Book On Protecting Your House Using X10 ItemsNov 22, 2007
By rbarch If you are interested in protecting your house but are not sure how to do it this book might be of help. This is a good book on how to use X10 items
to protect your house. The author has tried all of these items and explains how to use them, how to make them work better, and which products you should stay away from. I was going to spend $50 for one product but after reading the book I changed and bought something else instead. Reading the book saved me $50!!! I am now using the book as a guide on what to buy and how to install it

I don't think it is the best system but might be the cheapest. Certanly provide a lots of info. I don't trust the wireless ones.

Stay away from X10Nov 04, 2011

Stay away from X10. Their products are cheap, they dont work as they promise, and then you will spend 6 weeks trying to get your money back. Avoid X10 and save your money for a better system.

OK for beginners, but info was a bit dated...Jan 18, 2010
By GeekDaddy I have some prior experience with X10 product, but hoped to gain additional insights from this book.
The book contains some good basic information about X10 technology, but focused on basic switches and plug-in recepticles. A lot of the book was devoted to X10 motion sensors, video surveillance, and how to record info on a VHS or DVD recorder. I had hoped to learn more about the X10 security module and how it works with other X10 modules, but author only mentioned that the security module was poorly made and malfunctioned for him. Perhaps there was some value in this info (since I am now reluctant to buy one) but was hoping to learn more about how it could be implemented.
For someone that knows nothing about X10 technologies and/or wants to implement video surveillance, this is a good compilation of basic info. If you already have some knowledge of X10 technology and want to take it to the next level, there might not be enough for you here.
