| | | | Physical Security | Home » » The Official Identity Theft Prevention Handbook: Everyone's Identity Has Already Been Stolen - Learn What You Can Do About It | | | | | | | Description: | | What is America s top-rank crime concern? Identity theft. According to a 2009 Gallup Crime survey, 66 percent of U.S. adults say they worry “frequently or “occasionally about being a victim of identity theft. Why is the percentage of adults concerned with identity theft more than three times greater than the percentage concerned with “being sexually assaulted or “getting murdered? Similar to the identity theft crime itself, there is not a simple answer. Identity theft is a perfect storm: it affects many people, everyone is a potential target, there are substantial negative consequences, few truly understand the crime, and trusted sources disseminate information and products that can mislead, not help, the victim. It is comparable to driving your car without a door (and having no other options). You feel exposed, vulnerable and you know the consequences of a side impact are devastating; yet, you have no other option. The reality is you do have options to protect yourself, and The Official Identity Theft Prevention Handbook is here to teach you them. The Official Identity Theft Prevention Handbook is the first book to analyze identity theft in its proper context and provide takeaways to minimize the likelihood that you will be harmed by identity theft and to mitigate the negative consequences in the event that you've become a victim. Identity theft continues to proliferate, and it is tearing the fabric of our society. All understand it is important, but compelling people to take appropriate action is a challenge. The Official Identity Theft Prevention Handbook provides a tremendous first step towards individual and societal responsibility. We can swing the pendulum in the other direction. In the case of identity theft, the best defense is a good offense. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

An Eloquent and Insightful Primer on an Essential SubjectApr 26, 2011
By Lewis Fein This book is an absolute necessity, an eloquent primer about a national threat: identity theft. Written with clarity and elegance, Denis Kelly analyzes this subject with the dedication of a patient teacher and the integrity of a public leader. (Please note: I have read several articles, written by various so-called "experts" who claim to advise people about preventing identity theft, and none of them - not even the ones with media exposure and letters of praise from celebrities - compares to Denis Kelly's work on this subject. I have never met Mr. Kelly, nor do I work for his competitors, so my endorsement is independent proof that buying this book - and reading it! - is well worth your time.)
Mr. Kelly makes his case with ample evidence, uncovering the depth of this problem and the emotional and economic cost identity theft imposes on innocent people nationwide. More importantly, he offers tips - preventive measures - that are easy to implement and effective against this increasingly dangerous problem. And, unlike other books that lack practical guidance or an intelligible format, The Official Identity Theft Prevention Handbook combines a lucid prose style with an action plan that every individual - from parents to executives to administrators to elected officials - should follow.
I award this book the highest rating because, firstly, it deserves such recognition, and secondly, the book gives new perspective about a topic that continues to garner headlines. Mr. Kelly is a hero, someone I salute, and his book is a worthy addition to our intellectual enrichment and collective betterment. Bravo!
