I bought this around 3 weeks before NY exam (July 2010), the sample MBE in the book felt similar in difficulty and timing to the real thing. (which was NOT my experience with BarBri.) The reviews of the subjects are concise and easily digestable and I found the pointers/tips in the introduction really helpful throughout the exam. Just wish I'd gotten my hands on this book earlier in the game.

Here is the deal. I took the MBE and failed. I then purchased this book, read it, did the practice questions over and over, applied the advice, and passed the MBE (on my way to passing the Tennessee Bar Exam). If you've ever failed the bar exam, then you understand me when I say that I would've paid twice as much for this resource. 'Nuff said.

I am finding this book very useful for bar study. The book has been recommended by many people at my school as a good study guide with realistic bar questions. After doing research it seemed like the newest edition would be the best to prep for the July 2010 bar as the older edition was published a few years earlier. The explanations are clear and the sample problems are quite challenging.
However, a word of caution. This edition of the book is not very well edited. There are some answer explanations that are clearly incomplete (missing explanations of one or two answers) and numerous typos. Sometimes sentences just end or are out of context without explanation. I do not find that this is a poor study guide at all but the typos make me wonder if all the information is correct.

This was an excellent addition to my bar review materials. If you are taking a bar review course, chances are they will give you more than enough materials to review before the bar exam. Because of this, you will very rarely need to supplement those materials with anything else. This book is an exception.
Complete with detailed answers, this book offers lots of tricky/great questions on each core subject of the bar exam. It helped me immensely in unfortunately "re-learning" the MBE subjects and, it played a helpful role in my successful passage of the NY Bar this past July.
This book is great when you are just starting the bar review course to learn the material or later in the bar review process where you are trying to reinforce your understanding.
However, please be cautioned that for most people) doing all the questions in this book alone WILL NOT be enough to score well on the MBE portion of the bar exam. That takes practice. Don't be lazy.

Ever since I was a 1L I had heard people talking about this book as the bible for the MBE's. Sure enough, as a 3L now preparing for the CA February Bar Exam, this book was a must have. I have to say, they were not exaggerating and the praises for the book were well called for! The book is very well written and organized. The book contains more than 350 questions with detailed answers that, from what I have heard, are very close to the level of difficulty tested on the Bar.
The book starts off by addressing some common FAQs about the MBE- this is some basic stuff you can get off the web but you're still glad it's all in one comprehensive place. It then gives you detailed, yet concise, explanations about how to approach the MBE as a whole and how to "attack" it. I love this portion because even though the authors are providing you with all the information you need, the material is still very concise and easy to understand. I found myself just WANTING to flip the pages and continue reading- not just feeling like I HAVE to. I think it was because the explanations were so clear that it made the whole MBE seem easy enough to approach. This not only empowers you with the tools you need, but also increases your level of confidence in approaching the section.
The book then walks you through individual sections where they discuss the Strategies and Tactics for each of the 6 MBE subjects. These sections are the essence of the book and are just phenomenal! Each section has a baby outline listing all the relevant issues you may encounter on that subject. It then goes into the study strategies and very clearly explains the relevant law of the outlined issues. I can't tell you how useful this part was! They use mnemonics to help you remember and also use very good strategies to increase your ability memorization. I just wish law school made things so clear and simple for us.
Immediately after going over the law and providing you with the Strategies to tackle the specific section on the MBE, it then gives you roughly 50 questions on each subject area. I love this approach because you get to study the material and immediately be able to test your knowledge. The answer key to the questions were also great. I loved how they spent equal amount of time reviewing the correct answers as they did explaining why the incorrect answers are incorrect. This is another area where other study aids failed. They do provide the correct answer and maybe a few lines, at best, of explaining the wrong answers. This book goes a lot more in depth because sometimes you need something more than knowing your selection was wrong; for example, strict scrutiny does not apply. You need the why's and the how's. This book gives you that and much more!
Whether you are a first timer like myself, or a repeat taker, I highly recommend this book! After spending all that money and energy on law school, what's another $60 to make sure it all pays off?
