The Love At Stake Series is full of humor and fun but there is always danger lurking as well. We have known Gregori Holstein since book one. Playboy, bottle fed and Vice President of Marketing are a few things he is known as. He is only an eighteen year old vampire and forever twenty-nine. He likes to sing "I'm too sexy for my fangs, too sexy for my cape." He has enjoyed teasing and being the life of the party, or so we thought until his story. His mom is alive and works for Roman. It was because of her job that Gregori was attacked in the parking lot by an evil vampire and his mom begged Roman to turn him, and he did.
At first sight of the man getting out of the Limo below her, Abigail Tucker, the President's older daughter, felt drawn to him. Her sister Madison had heard that their father had a meeting with vampires and she was watching for some to fly in. Abby has been out of the lime light as she looks for a cure for her moms lupus. When they find that vampires do exist and can teleport, her dream of getting to China for special healing plants is realized. If only she can continue to convince herself that she does not want to fall for a vampire.
Another exciting adventure for our guys. And a book full of new quips to laugh about. A crabby Sean Whelan who is trying to convince his CIA guys he's still human, Howard Barr and his never ending hunger for Bear Claws, more of Rajiv the were-tiger, and JL Wang, and most of our friends return for this journey. Connor & Marielle are still honeymooning since it was only last week they married. So until next time...we can read the first eleven books again.

Vampires are threatened after a video revealing their existence is shown to the human public. Gregori Holstein is sent as a vampire representative to the president in hopes he can form an alliance with the U.S. government and have the video labeled a hoax. In exchange for the governments help, Gregori will need to take the president's daughter into unfriendly territory so she may find items that could help cure her dying mother. The trip itself is the easy part, for Gregori the real challenge will be keeping his hands off the beautiful and intelligent Abigail.
Gregori has been part of this series since the beginning and I was thrilled to learn he was getting his own book. He's one of the younger vampires so there's a modern feel to him especially when compared to the centuries old males from previous books. He's smart, charming, hardworking and an all around great guy. Abigail is a good fit for his character. She's not just another vampiress who is looking to bed him. She has actual depth and intelligence to her and like Gregori, is close to her mother. I didn't think that there was much of a transition between Abby being afraid of what Gregori is and falling head over heels in love with him. It just seems to have happened and I felt as if I missed out on something. There also wasn't a lot of sexual heat between them. It was more about emotions and overcoming obstacles than a physical relationship. All that is fine of course I just thought with it being Gregori's book, there would be more sexually intense scenes. Despite the couple issues I had, I thought they made a cute couple that really deserves their happy ending.
In the previous book, the malcontents (evil vampires who enjoy drinking from humans and have no problems killing them) suffered a big loss during a battle which led to the release of the video tape to the humans. In Sexiest Vampire Alive, Gregori and his fellow vampires are dealing with the aftermath and trying to contain the situation before it's open season on the undead. There are brief cameos from several regulars but most of the time was given to Gregori and Abby. The mission to help save Abby's mom takes them and their team of vampires and shifters into China and took the plot in a more dramatic and action filled direction. I thought this was great because we learned more about characters that we've briefly met before without taking the story in a confusing and unnecessary direction.
Sexiest Vampire Alive is a book I think fans of the series will be happy with. Gregori is so much more than the ladies man and people pleaser he wants everyone to think he is and I enjoyed seeing all the different layers to him. His and Abby's relationship was sweet, it's just that I wish the transition to being in a relationship didn't happen so quickly. There have been human/vampire pairings before but I felt Gregori and Abby had more to overcome and it made for a really emotional read at times. This wasn't the best installment in the series but I still thought it was a really good read.

The beginning was laugh out loud funny. Gori has some great one liners and I was entertained. I must admit that before the summery came out I thought it was about Phineas (cause when you say the sexiest vampire alive I think of the Love Doctor). There was very little of the other characters. Sure we saw Howard a lot, but we didn't get to know anyone any more then we did-though Angus and Phineas cracked me up. The fight scenes seem to be all the same from one story to the next-but I guess it is to be expected they were a bit boring compared to the huge war in the last book. Obviously the attraction was there, but the scenes lacked heat that were in the other books-can you say Vanda and Phil!!! Glad they showed him more masculine-cause I don't go for the metro sexuals. I HOPE we see more Phineas in the next book (I love him) and get updated with Connor. Their community is getting HUGE. I almost need to make a spreadsheet that list everyone and who they married! Cant wait for the next book.

Gregori is a people person. He's a marketer and he knows how to sell, including his image. This has never been more important to his people as it is right now. After a video showing that vamps do exist gets out, the Coven sends Gregori to meet with government officials, including the President, in the hopes of getting them to say that vamps do not exist. In return, the vamps will work with the government to protect humans...doing much of what they've already been doing in fighting against the Malcontents for years. When Gregori heads to Washington his interest is already high in the Presidents family because of Abigail, the daughter who has stayed completely out of the limelight. Theirs is a story of sparks flying at that first touch, and in this case it's a simple handshake and they're both instantly attracted.
In order to gain the President's favor in keeping the vampires secret, once he finds out about the powers a vampire has, including teleportation, the President makes a new offer. Help his daughter Abigail retrieve rare plants halfway around the world and they'll consider it a done deal. Abby's a scientist and her mother's health is failing. She believes that with the help of those plants, she can create a way to help her mother recover.
The plot was pretty straight forward, Gregori, Abby and a select group of vamps and shifters head out on their trip to get these plants, and of course things don't go as planned. They run into a small village of people who are following the orders of another Master and a Demon. The plot wasn't all that intense, but this series is more about the fun, less about the action/violence. There have been casualties along the way, and the vamps do face the threat with each book of becoming known to all humans, but this book in particular, felt very light. The romance was easy going, easy to happen, very little angst at the end. The plot didn't really advance any main storylines forward. We do get a little bit of the fallout between Sean and his wife - but it's a very small scene and their issues took place off the page.
Gregori and Abby had nice banter and Gregori was out to prove that he wasn't the playboy every made him out to be. He struggles to be the most human of the vamps in a way. He's never bitten a human and wants to keep it that way.

A tear rolled down her cheek.
He plucked the rose. "It is possible now. Roman figured out a way, but I don't have any samples of my mortal blood. My mother burned the bloody clothes I was wearing when I was attacked." He pinched a thorn off the rose stem and tossed it outside into the flowerbed. "So for me, it's impossible. You can see why I dislike that word."
He turned and held the rose out to her. "Why can't you be possible?"
Her heart cracked. How could she hurt him when she was falling in love with him?

Fans of the Love at Stake Series will enjoy Gregori's story, but overall I found it to be just a little lacking. The romance, while they had great banter and a few nicely hot scenes, felt rushed and when the relationship is between a vampire who can live forever and a human who can't...I want to know how they're going to deal with it. Will she consider turning at some point, will he want to meet his death with her when her time comes...these are things I like to know. It's not a spoiler to say they get a happy ending, but I just needed more! Yes, they're happy now, but I wanted more details, a little more depth and that's overall what the book was lacking.

I love Kerrelyn Sparks, she is one of my favorite vampire authors. But this book was just not up to her usual standard. There was no passion or heat in the scenes and you couldn't feel the love and desire between Gregori and Abby like you could in the previous books. There were the usual one liners and fun, but it wasn't like any of her other work. It seemed almost rushed like the book was trying to meet some deadline. By the end of the book I started to suspect that it wasn't even Sparks writing it; some much less skilled writer took her place. It wasn't her usual style at all. I'm going to keep reading the series, but this book was a big disappointment for me.
