Krentz and his dog, Blue, had been missing since that morning. They were last heard from when he radioed his brother to say that he’d found an illegal alien on the property and was going to offer him assistance. The man Krentz encountered that day shot and killed him and his dog, without warning, before escaping to Mexico. It’s difficult to overstate the impact of Krentz’s death, which turned the issue of Arizona’s unsecured border—a crisis that the federal government had repeatedly ignored—into a national concern. As Arizona sheriff Larry Dever said in his testimony before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, “We cannot sit by while our citizens are terrorized, robbed, and murdered by ruthless and desperate people who enter our country illegally.” This momentum helped pass SB 1070, a bill that authorizes local law enforcement under certain conditions to question persons reasonably suspected of being illegal aliens, which Governor Jan Brewer and the state legislature had been working on for months. With the passage of this controversial bill, the state of Arizona became ground zero in the impassioned debate over illegal immigration. The Democrats and the media went into overdrive, denouncing the state and its governor as racists and Nazis. Governor Brewer, a lifelong Arizona resident with deep ties to the community, was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 1982, and hasn’t lost an election since. As a state official, she watched with increasing dismay as illegal immigration exploded across Arizona’s border, and noticed the devastating effect it was having on the state. Causing an escalation in violence, an influx of drugs, and prisons and hospitals to fill to overflowing, this problem was not only wreaking havoc on the moral fabric of the community but placing an even greater strain on Arizona’s beleaguered health, educational, and social welfare networks. Growing frustrated with the failure of the federal government to respond to her pleas for assistance, Governor Brewer led the state to action. Scorpions for Breakfast is Brewer’s commonsense account of her fight to secure our nation’s border in the face of persistent federal inaction. Her book is vital reading for all Americans interested in the real change that can happen when local leaders take the initiative to preserve our country and our laws. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Actions speak more than wordsJan 27, 2012
By Tim Mosier I found this book to be both eye opening and gut wrenching. I have long ago stopped watching the news channels. I am an Independent and have been closely following the GOP race and polls on the net. While browsing I came across a blog about the tarmac incident..... curious about the cause I bought the book. The book comes across as very authentic. If I had any doubts, the hateful personal attacks from those who obviously did not read the book proves just how true it is. What is gut wrenching is the president is now raising the stakes and repeating the same behavior, except it is at the national level and pitting Americans against each other. It is the same ploy.... point the finger at the 1%, it is their fault we don't have jobs, their fault the housing market is still falling with 4 million foreclosures this year (despite being put on hold due to fraud), their fault we have an anemic economy, and their fault the dollar is free falling. The reason for the financial crisis is corruption. Four years later no one has been convicted. But, billions and billions of bail outs, incentives, etc. have continued, without even forcing the primary players in the crisis out of their jobs. Not one person is sitting in jail for the biggest case of corruption, fraud, and insider trading between Washington and Wall Street ever. It started with Republicans and then continued with the Democrats. Instead of doing his job and doing the things I voted him in office to do, he is deliberately inciting class warfare (e.g., 1% predominantly white republican race warfare) by blaming others. I believe history will judge this president harshly. That is if the America I know and love survives his presidency. I have been a swing voter and 100% of the presidents I have voted for have been elected. I don't really like any of the Republican candidates, but I can assure you this swing vote will go to anyone who can beat Obama. I am praying my luck in selecting the winning candidate holds. Anyone who is concerned about the rhetoric you are hearing right now needs to read this book. Governor Brewer's actions to protect her state's citizens speaks volumes louder than all the slanderous words from her detractors. And the President's actions speak volumes about the words that will be coming out of his mouth this year.

Outstanding telling of border struggles...Jan 26, 2012
By David Fiedler
"dave"
This book is an outstanding description of the challenges faced by border states and the denial of federal politicians anxious to corner the hispanic vote. Reviews for this book obviously fall along party lines but the despicable motivations of those on the left intent on rupturing the rule of law re immigration in the name of gaining or maintaining power will leave you numb. Immigration is great as long as it's legal. 5 stars for courage and leadership Governor!

Insightful for someone interested in state vs. fedJan 26, 2012
By mark beidleman Honest and insightful.
We are bombarded with the medias take on events in AZ and one sides negative portrait of those in AZ who live on the front lines.
If you believe people in AZ who are against illegal immigration are racist then you should read this book. At least then you can say you honestly listened to the other side.

Take the one star reviews with a grain of salt...Jan 28, 2012
By Fish Just thought it was worth mentioning that out all 34 one star "reviews" that currently exist for this book, not a single one of them is a verified Amazon purchase.
Does that mean that none of them got a copy of this book from anywhere else? Of course not. One of them claims to have checked out a copy from a library, and that could be true. Could be, but it's much more likely that the overwhelming majority of them are simply lying about having read the book because they disagree with Jan Brewer's political beliefs (enforcing the law) and they want to try to retard the sales of her book by posting phony reviews.
Gov. Brewer is a hero for doing the right thing even when it's the most difficult thing to do. She's a patriot for trying to enforce the rule of law and protect her citizens while fighting off the attacks from Obama and his administration. Obama swore to uphold the constitution and our laws but instead he's mocking and attacking those who do. This book is a well written must-read if you want the real scoop on that battle.
