I bought this book after reading Gibson's SYO-201 Get Certified Get Ahead book and subsequently passing the Security+ test with flying colors (95%). His writing is easy to understand and doesn't put you to sleep quite as quickly as some other certification test books I've read, so I like that.
What I didn't like about this book is that it seems like the editor was asleep. Because I've already taken Security+, most of the topics are not new to me, so I was able to pinpoint mistakes throughout the book. However, for someone that doesn't know some of the material, the mistakes can really mess you up. I've found port numbers that were wrong, protocol ID numbers that were wrong, and questions that had the wrong answer. It just feels like this book editing was a bit hurried. The GCGA book was much more accurate.
Other than that, it's a pretty easy read, so I would still recommend it. Just watch out for the mistakes.

I've always had great confidence in the books developed by Darril Gibson and even more if they are about computer security. Darril Gibson is a trademark of quality in security books. It is also an approachable person and has always answered my questions by email.
The material of the All-In-One SSCP Exam Guide is easy to understand, has an excellent presentation and is also comfortable to read. As a trainer of technical courses leading to certification I'm always seeking for materials that will help my students achieve their career goals. Similarly, as a certified professional I am always looking for materials which help me study and see the exam topics as closely as possible.
This book covers all exam objectives for SSCP certification. And this is something we have to look in a book conducting to any Industry certification. In addition, the author uses a clear way to explain every word and technical security concept without departing from the domains of (ISC)2. This is not a boring book, the author captures the attention in every page until the last. It is important to use an entertaining and simple, but without losing the seriousness and importance of the issues, especially on a topic as abstract as security.
At the end of each chapter, the author makes a series of questions that help to measure our strengths and weaknesses, so that you can feel comfortable before you start reading a new chapter or reread the last if necessary.
One of the most valuable aspects of this book is the digital material that accompanies it: The questions in the practice engine serves as an exam simulator. This practice engine shows what will be the real test. It is a great guide and an important support tool that helps develop some confidence about the actual test. And this is very important during the certification process. It is very important to arrive on test day with a clear idea of what will happen, the "look and feel" of the test.

I haven't taken the test yet so I can't say how well the book matches the exam. But the book itself is very well written and easy to read. The individual sections seem to have mild to moderate level of detail so I' probably try to find additional references to study. On the other hand, since I already have a lot of work experience, this book might be sufficient for me to pass the exam. I'll try to post a follow-up/update review after I take the exam.

I purchased this book to understand what was all the fuzz about CISSP and SSCP certification and if I needed them.
Most of the info contained in this book will come as no surprise to anyone involved in the security business. Most answers are well known and it allows to "skip" some sections of the book. However, what I like was the way to organize the various topics to be prepared to pass the exam. This was helpful even in the daily approach of security problem.
In the end, this is a good supporting material for the exam but you are the one who takes it. Preparation is a lot but not everything. Knowledge is most of everything...and common sense.

Pursuing the SSCP has been daunting, to say the least. With a few other security certs under my belt, but not a lot of hands-on experience in the field, I was looking forward to gaining the SSCP to get a push into a security analyst/engineer position. Darril's SSCP study guide was exactly what I was waiting for, since all the other SSCP books out there are pretty bland. This topic can be bland at times though, we all know that, yet still Darril has a way of bringing things to life what seem dead and boring on surface.
PDF version is superb, and I usually use that one on the go and the paperback stays at home.
