Description:

OPEN IN THIRTY SECONDS: Cracking One of the Most Secure Locks in America is the printed version of LSS+x, (the multimedia edition on CD for Government agencies, locksmiths, and security professionals). This book examines new techniques to compromise Medeco® Biaxial® and m3 high security locks by methods of forced, covert, and surreptitious entry. It is the result of an eighteen month research project by the authors and other security experts. It has resulted in the filing of multiple patents and the ability to pick, bump, and mechanically bypass Medeco cylinders, sometimes in seconds. Medeco, for the past forty years, has been the predominant high security lock manufacturer in the United States. They protect high value targets and critical infrastructure throughout the world. Their venues include the White House, Pentagon, and the Royal Family in England, as well as hundreds of thousands of residences, businesses, hospitals, banks, government facilities, and institutions. Their locks are found in virtually every application where the highest level of quality and security is expected. The development of methods to bypass Medeco locks required the solution to many interrelated and complex problems, and may be the modern equivalent of the Enigma code machine during World War II. The process to compromise all levels of Medeco security required technical expertise, the connection of many unrelated pieces of information, and perhaps most importantly, imagination. The chronology of how Medeco security was cracked is a good story, especially if you enjoy technically-based intellectual challenges that have serious security implications in the real world.

The book was well researched and had relevant pictures. But it is not really a "how to" book. As a locksmith I thought this book might help me open Medeco locks on the few times that all keys are lost or the customer needs in immediately - and that I might even be able to do it without damaging the lock... in 30 seconds no less! After reading it I'll still approach that problem the same way I always have: drill and slice with a grinder to remove the anti-drill pins and then drill the shear line. In other words, there is almost no practical information presented to show that Medeco is not secure. In fact, the length of the book suggests that it is VERY complicated to open one of these locks. The book may be a three star but I gave it two because the author(s) repeatedly suggest that all of the good secrets are contained on their government issue DVD, not allowed for the public. But really that's the stuff we all bought this book for.

There is a TON of information in here. It is a very detailed book of instruction, construction, and manipulation. Learn everything about these locks (and others), from the inside out. See the true weeknesses and strengths of these locks.
The amount of knowledge in this book is enourmous.
A great resource guide to have around. Very useful for professional locksmiths, as well as lock sport people.
It is a technical manual, so dont expect a nail biter that you cant put down.

This book was excellent. It explained in laymans terms on how to crack Medeco locks. If you are in a position where you have to know how to pick open this lock, don't hesitate, this is the handbook for you. Whether you are a master, journeyman or apprentice locksmith, this guide will definitely steer you though the steps required to get the job done. My first attempt was about an hour, but I quickly learned the feel, as described in the book. My adjectives for the book go from enjoyable, educational and rewarding.
