This book is one of the best books out there for learning everything you need to know to take the Network+ exam.
It doesn't teach you things that you don't need to know, only stuff that would be on the exam.
Very easy to read, and also very portable and not not heavy at all.
Comes with Four practice Exams on a CD.
Book contains more than 400 pages but it goes by so fast.
Definitely recommend this book, it helped me pass my Network+ exam.

I was able to use this book as a type of 'boot camp' for me. This book is easy to carry and sticks to what may be on the test so I do like that. Give yourself a month and you can read through it easily, if you want to read 6 hours a day (not fun) you can do that too in a week but dont do that on purpose and only if you already are familiar with the topics. This book has multiple inconstanties and incorrect answers on review questions and gives some conflicting information in different chapters on the same thing. Its a small amount of wrong data and would be found on a simple read through by an editor. Anyway, passing the test right, that's all we really care about. I saw those other thick books my coworkers were reading and since I do have experience in the industry I didn't want to start from scratch so.. if you have never picked up a computer book before then start with something else but if you have worked in a helpdesk or tech support you will already have the skillset to start with. This is an acronym and protocol heavy test and the book covers 80 -85% of what you may see on the test. In the end I passed and studied nothing else but this book but just barely made it... give yourself more study time. that is the answer. If you are serious about passing this test, give your self study time and a month.. This does have the information you will need.

So I just took the test yesterday and passed with an 818 out of a possible 900, 720 was passing. I will say this, this book helped alot with the exam however it did not completely cover all topics. There were protocols I had not even heard of on the test and this book did not mention them. If you are looking for a supplemental book to help prepare you for the test, than this is an OK choice but you will DEFINITELY not be able to rely on passing the test with just this book. I used a video study program with over 50 hours of video as my primary source of material.

There is no perfect book for Network+Jun 22, 2011

This was one of three books I used to study for the exam. This book is short and to the point and is probably a good starting point for your first read. However, I don't think you could pass using just this book. As a matter of fact, there is stuff on the exam that wasn't in three books. Compared to the A+ exam, which is two tests, this single test was far harder than both of those put together. I passed with 840/900, but I know I could have done better with better materials.
My exam strategy was this: Since these books tend to go in a somewhat logical order and build your network knowledge at a starting point of "this is a network", they do not follow the order of the CompTIA objectives. So I read this book cover to cover, then printed out the objectives from the CompTIA site. I then built a note sheet following the order of the objectives. This will have you running to and fro through the book to gather the objectives, which I found to help me sort out the information. I had started with Todd Lammle's overly detailed, colloquial, error filled book but completely dumped it. I then purchased Tamara Dean's "In Depth" book which was excellent, but contains far more information than you need to know for the exam (it makes a better reference book than study guide). So I used this book as my outline, then supplemented the gaps with the Dean book. I used that same approach with A+ exam.
Pros: Writing style is easy to read. Concise and to the point. Does not flood you with information irrelevant to the exam. I liked the Exam Tips, the Travel Advisories and the links to other resources.
Cons: Not enough information for the exam. It does not have a glossary. You will definitely want to use two sources for any of the CompTIA exams. The questions in the back of each chapter are OK, but not nearly as difficult as the real exam. The same goes for the CD. There are two exams on the CD and they are full of errors. Even though they consist of 100 questions each, you will see three questions covering the same objective and many objectives never questioned.
So, I will give it four stars, as it was very useful, but not perfect.

I used this book to study for the Network+ exam and I believe it helped me pass it. It's easy to read and didn't put me to sleep. I've had other certification books that were boring and this is not one of them. I totally recommend it to you if you are serious about passing the Network+ exam.
