For the five teens who modeled as Disney Hologram Imaging hosts, life is beginning to settle down when an intriguing video arrives to Philby's computer at school. It's a call for action: the Overtakers, a group of Disney villains, seem to be plotting to attempt a rescue of two of their leaders, both of whom the Disney Imagineers have hidden away somewhere following a violent encounter in Epcot. A staged attack by new Overtakers at Downtown Disney, startles the group.
One of their own, Charlene, is acting strange of late. Has she tired of her role as a Kingdom Keeper or is there something more sinister at play? When caught sneaking into Epcot as her DHI, acting strictly against the group's rules, Finn and Philby take action.
Has the "impossible" occurred? Have the Overtakers created their own holograms? Have they found a way to "jump" from the Virtual Maintenance Network onto the Internet, and if so, what does that mean for the safety of the parks, and the spread and reach of the Overtakers? Are they recruiting an army from outside the parks?
A dark cloud in the Kingdom Keeper era is unfolding, and with dissention in their own ranks, it's unclear if there's any chance of escape.

I already loved this well-established series. The first book was defintely the best, while the next two weren't bad. But, this newest installment totally blew the others out of the water. Ridley Pearson shows how the Keepers' jobs are affecting their friends and family. At the end, Finn sounds so mature. This book is an example of well-written and fun Young Adult Fiction. I absolutely can't wait for the next book. SPOILER ALERT!: "Good" Disney characters show up and start to help the Keepers. This helps to make this book different. It's very exciting to read about your favorite Disney characters kicking butt.

Kingdom Keepers IV: Power Play is the fourth installment of the series by Ridley Pearson. The story follows the keepers as they try to protect Disney World and its magic from the Overtakers - classic Disney villains including: Maleficent and the Evil Queen from Snow White.
Overall, if you are a fan of the series, this book will not disappoint you. Fans of Disney characters and parks will appreciate all of the Disney aspects. Disney characters are abundant in this book including Ariel from the Little Mermaid, Pluto and Minnie. It possesses as many thrills, twists, and action as the first three books. Unlike its predecessors, Power Play does not focus exclusively on a single park. Instead, the readers get to witness the keepers grow-up from inexperienced kids to awkward teenagers. They are experiencing what all ninth-graders go through on their quest to adulthood; from love triangles between Finn, Amanda, and Charlene to bullies. Of course, they still cross over into the Disney parks as their DHIs, but readers can tell that the story is evolving and budding, waiting for the incredible series climax.
I think that Pearson does a good job, bringing the readers up to speed on what happened in the previous books without feeling like it is a one or two chapter summary. However, I would definitely recommend reading the previous books if you are new to the series.
I was disappointed in the depiction of the parents of the keepers. While Pearson does a decent job capturing the various attitudes of youth, he falls off the wagon when it comes to the adults. They are completely unpredictable and do not add much to the story. If you can get past the parents, the book is very enjoyable.

Ridley Pearson had a great idea with the first Kingdom Keepers book. Kingdom Keepers 4 continues to expand on that original great idea and ramp up the action, however it appears that much needed change is in the future for the series of books.
The Kingdom Keepers are taking a similar route as the kids from Hogwarts. Each book they are a little older, a little wiser and the stakes get a little higher. If you haven't read the first three books, you are likely going to be completely lost.
At the beginning of the latest installment, the Disney villains (or Overtakers in the terminology of the book) are once again attacking the Kingdom Keepers. Unlike before, their reach has gone all the way to DisneyQuest and the cast of villains has expanded. Snow White's Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, Claude Frollo, Shan-Yu and others have picked up where Chernabog and Maleficent left off in KK3. All signs point to an attempted jailbreak for the captured monsters.
The Evil Queen is particularly dangerous however since she has the ability to put actual humans under spells, including several of the Kingdom Keepers. The Keepers are unable to trust even each other. Meanwhile, the Overtakers are putting motion a plan that will capture the Keepers in their DHI state as well as break out their leaders.
Joining the cast this time are some of the good Disney Characters. The first KK alluded to this by seeing Chip, Dale and Winnie the Pooh, but we haven't seen much from them since.
The action is continually ramping up in Power Play between a daredevil escape from Claude Frollo, a swordfight on Malestrom, a battle on Tom Sawyer Island and other scenes of action. Somehow, Pearson has never been able to recapture the honest terror of the Small World or Big Thunder scenes from KK1.
But regardless, this is a quick and fun read. The Keepers' personalities are starting to show more and the teenage love triangles are getting complicated. The next books will leave the Florida area and head to the cruise before spending the last two books at Disneyland California.
I think Pearson realized that to a certain extent, books two and three tread water a bit at the Disney parks and that it is time for a final battle between the Overtakers and the Keepers and for the plan to be more than jailbreaks and killing the Keepers. This book thankfully takes the time to set up the rest of the series nicely and shows the battle lines being drawn.
This is an excellent series for most ages and I look forward to next year when we see KK5 hit the shelves.

Keep the Kingdom Keepers Coming!May 02, 2011

The worst part about this book was that now I have to wait about a year for Ridley to finish the next book!
I think I read this the fastest of the four. I just couldn't put it down. This is a good series for any age. I am quite a bit older than the age KK4 is intended but it is written so well that I don't feel too old reading it. Being a Disney trivia fanatic I also love all the references to Walt Disney World, the Disney Cruise and Disneyland. I can actually picture myself there running around the parks with Finn and the others. If you haven't read the first three you can still get a sense of what is going on, but it is a fun ride going through each book in sequence.

After reading the other three books in the series, I eagerly awaited the release date for this installment. It did not disappoint! The series just keeps getting better with every book. As an adult and serious fan of all things Disney, this series has me hooked. Sure there are some minor discrepancies or flaws that I assume some will point to, but those small details can't erase the pure magic and fun these stories create! I feel like I'm there in the parks with the Keepers and can't wait for their next adventure. The final chapter of this book indicates the next installment will take them on an even greater quest than those they've been on so far. Speaking of the final chapter - wow! What a fantastic way to end things for this installment. I was really impressed by the addition of new characters to the overall story. It certainly worked well.
