The United States, already weakened by internal strife, becomes the target of an international terror plot. A series of attacks results in thousands of casualties and disables the country's core infrastructure. The combination of economic hardship and the staggering blow of the terror attacks results in a collapse of the government. This is a realistic story of how an average, middle class couple survives the cascading events brought on by international politics, high tech military actions and the eventual downfall of society. All of their survival skills are tested during the action packed expedition in a world that resembles the American West of 200 years past.
As previewed in the Epilogue of book one, "Holding Their Own II: The Independents" is scheduled for publication Spring of 2012. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

WOW !!!!!!Dec 12, 2011
By gunnut This is one of those "can't-put-it-down" books. The plot is fast moving and exciting yet has splashes of very romantic writing laced through out. It mostly takes place in Houston, and is about a devoted couple that decides to "bug out" after a government collapse. They are a team and there's nothing chicken about either one. They work their way through the adventures of trying to reach their ranch in West Texas, without getting robbed, killed or tortured by the looters and other bad guys, yet they need supplies to keep them going, and will do almost anything to get gas and food. The author incorporates many serious ideas and methods for survival and yet the main characters keep their sense of humor and devotion to each other. Again, it is fast moving. I laughed out loud a few times, and teared up once. Is this author entertaining? Yes, yes, yes.

Very Good BookJan 20, 2012

Character development is excellent and it has a good story line. I found the explanation of how society breaks down and falls apart to be very realistic. Then ending will leave you wanting a sequel.

Thought provokingDec 12, 2011

I really enjoyed this book. I am a huge PAF fan, this didn't disappoint. The writing is a little stiff but didn't detract significantly from the story. Some of the dialogue was a little unrealistic (ie the joking around with Terri and Bishop). I like the weapons detail and the delineated good guy/ bad guy aspect. The cliff hanger, while pissing me off a little, has got me lookimg forward to the next installment.
I am assuming J. Nobody is a male... If not sorry, but this book got me to thinking what PAF will look like when more women enter the genre?

Story of what to do, by example.Feb 11, 2012

I'm a fan of the genre anyway, but............there are a lot of post-apocalyptic fiction novels that are really bad. This one is pretty good. There's some misspellings that get annoying but it doesn't take from the story. I would describe this book as a survival manual expressed through fiction. The survival manual is the main character. The main character seems to know the right way to do things. All other characters learn from the main character. Don't think this story would have been the same without a main character that was a prepper.

A better PAF StoryFeb 01, 2012

All in all, a very plausible survival story with lots of survival hints, tips and instruction hidden in. An excellent primer on surviving an economic collapse (very possible in today's reality) in an enjoyable, exciting, informative, easily read format. Joe ranks right there with other Post Apocalyptic writers.
Oriented towards the average person unfamiliar with the survival preparation scene, the author shows that survival of yourself and your loved ones starts right now with prior preparation, knowledge and mental sets, tactics, and supplies and equipment. When the balloon goes up, if you don't have it, it will be virtually impossible to get. If and when the crunch does happen, you will have a better chance of survival if you make the correct basic decisions. You will have a lot of tough choices and decisions to make, the wrong decision easily costing you your life. Joe points out likely events and situations that his protagonist couple experiences, and understanding the real events will make all the difference in getting you through to help rebuild a better society. Highly recommended.
