 Absolute GARBAGE!!!Oct 23, 2011

This is by far the most useless book I have ever read. It is chock full of nothing that is even remotely helpful in learning financial management. This is a very expensive doorstop, and it can't even do that right. I feel bad for anyone having to buy this piece of (you know). You would be better actually learning from another source. There are not enough words to describe how abysmal this book is. The only financial thing you will learn from this book is how to waste hard earned money. Good luck.

I hate books where you don't get answers to the review questions at the end of the chapter. The publisher is horrible to work with - and yes, you have to work with the publisher to get access to everything that comes with the book. Apparently you're supposed to buy this book and then spend another $90 to get access to an online program called Aplia so you can work through problems with answers provided. Thomson ONE was useless for our needs and although my book came with it, once I shelled out another $90 for Aplia the publisher deleted my Thomson ONE access that came with the book.
The book was supposedly updated this year but all the references were from 2009. Many of the outside weblinks were no longer valid. During the updating process some items were updated and others were left alone but the example problems were not always fully updated so many of the answers in the examples could not be replicated making it even more difficult to learn the material.
I am sure there are some very good text books available on financial management but this is not one of them.

This book is way too expensive for the material it has. I bought because it is required in the MBA but the exercises are way too difficult and the material doesn't hint you about how to resolve them. The material is very basic to be MBA material in comparison to the exercises. If the book is not required, just copy the exercises and look for another book for reference.

The text presents all the basic concepts of finance in simple, easy to understand language. The vignettes tie concepts in to current affairs and the breakaways provide deeper insights. The companion excel models are easy to use and understand. The self-test and end of chapter questions are clear and accurately test comprehension. Although I got the book for a finance course, I believe it is written well enough that a non-academic audience would find it valuable.

I'm a student who has read through chapter 8 so far. I like the collection of equations in the appendix, and the detailed table of contents has been helpful. However, I find that the text has way too many footnotes, some sections can be difficult to understand (and what was the whole chatty section with Robinson Crusoe doing in there? the level is uneven), and even though I've visited the publisher's website a few times, I've yet to find some of the pages mentioned (by topic, not by URL) in the text. How about giving a URL? While the author has clearly made an effort to include very current material in the book which does make for interesting reading, for an introduction to Financial Mgt, I'd prefer a less expensive book containing information that won't seem dated in a couple years.
