Great start for ITILSep 08, 2011
By Guran Fazla Brady's book is the first book that I have read about ITIL and definitely it helped me a lot in understanding the "could have been" conceptual stuff, thanks to the analogy used. Having worked in IT for years and observing the conflicts between IT and business, I have found lots of answers to my unanswered questions in ITIL. I strongly advise everyone in IT profession to read this book (preferably in every stage of their career) to be able to provide real value adding services and become non-optional.

A Good FoundationNov 12, 2011
By Joe Kabanek After taking three online SkilSoft courses provided by my employer and understanding nearly none of it, I picked up this book. It helped me understand the different elements of ITIL and how some of the pieces fit together. I don't know that I would depend on it for my total preparation for the exam, which I sat for and passed today. If all you wanted to do was learn more about ITIL, this is a good book for that. I picked up another book (not this author's) that was purely test questions. I'll review it next.
This is a good solid book for understanding the ITIL, and it will provide a basis for test preparation.
A couple of items 1) The author goes on in the intro pretty strongly about how he really needed a good editor. Even after finding one, he still has grammatical and punctuation errors sprinkled throughout.
2) The author uses a story line about a restaurant chain, which he progressively adds to with each new chapter; however, he never goes back and makes the connection to ITIL. So be prepared to wonder about that, and if you go back to attempt to put the pieces together, you'll get no verification from the author that your thinkin' ain't stinkin'.
Finally, know this: The test itself has grammatical errors including sentences that stop in the middle of a thought and pick up at the end of another. If you want this certification, live with it. I have several technical certifications, instructional certifications, a project management certification, and an MBA. This was a difficult test because of the grammar and the terminology, which is based on the "Queen's English" (British English). Americans, take note. It ain't easy. This book will help but will not be the total answer.
Again, a good solid book to understand the ITIL. It will give you a good foundation.

ITIL FoundationsOct 25, 2011
By itil deb This is a great book for all the concepts needed to know to pass the ITIL Foundations exam. It is also useful as a good resource for teaching your IT staff the basics for an ITIL implementation. The flow of the book is logical and is easy to follow. Brady does an excellent job in taking conceptual ideas and presenting them in a way that allows the reader to visualize and comprehend.

Perfect for self study or group useOct 17, 2011

"ITSM Practitioner"
This book provides a very concise and easily understood summary of ITSM fundamentals with sufficient ITIL specificity to aid individuals seeking a Foundations certification. It provides sufficient examples and relevant use cases to help add context to the lexicon and concepts so often cited but not always well explained in many other texts. This reference is well suited to help familiarize teams engaged in service management activities with a basic knowledge of ITIL without requiring them to attend a full certification course due to the cost or time constraints that are increasingly common. Formal certification courses are very beneficial and well advised but this book provides a quality alternative to also consider based on your unique needs and learning style.

Not Happy to Discover a Newer Version was AvailableNov 05, 2011
By NMC Nothing like being excited to receive something you want to further your career, and on the day you receive it you notice from the publisher to go to Amazon.com to purchase the newest version of what I just purchased. How come when I was in the process of making my purchase (amazon search for ITIL foundation) I was not alerted this wasn't the most current version available? I know I will like the book, and know it will assist me to get certified. Just not happy I did not get the most current version availble which is what should have happened. I would hope Amazon could be a little more responsible to insure when customers are searching for something, they are being offered the most current version, and not just something you need to still sale!!!!
