This is a great book for the SA to work by himself, together with the therapist or can be used in a group setting. It is task centered which is the best approach in SA recovery.

Lots of written exercises to keep you thinking. Very upfront and it can relate to all addictions. I am using it for codependency and love addiction. I just change the words sex addiction to my personal issues. It is a challenge but I believe it will be worth it.

this book is a great resource for any sex addict looking for recovery, or love addict. I personally think it's a bit repetitive with some of its exercises but overall Mr.Carnes delivers an important book for the Sex and love addict community.

I am a CSAT candidate and have used this material with my clients. It deals with the first 7 tasks with performables out of total of 30 tasks that are an integral part of the sex addicts recovery journey. The material included in Facing the Shadows does provide, as Carnes notes, the needed avenue for the "deep attention" need to reconfigure the neural pathways in the brain and thus necessary for recovery.
