I literally keep this on my desk at all times. Since I had a good foundation of computer hardware and software knowledge I didn't need to read page for page, but I study up on issues I run into from time to time. I can see this being a great book to help people new into the IT world and computing. The CD has great resources to assist anyone who is planning to take the A+ Certification! Good job!!

One of the tools available with this book is a CD from Learnkey. Unfortunately, I have been unable to make it work completely with Windows 7 OS. The book itself is informative, and the chapters broken down into managable parts. Self tests at the end of each chapter are helpful, but the final tests are on the CD.
I've been working with the Techs @ Learnkey to try to fix the CD issue.

Being unemployed, and a semi-slow reader, I was able to read this book in about 2 weeks. It took a lot of time and coffee at starbucks. Due to distractions and lack of discipline (I guess), I generally have difficulty reading ANYTHING at home. The book isn't exactly exciting so that didn't help too much, but at times, it is interesting. I DID learn some new things, and I ultimately DID pass the A+ exam, with this book being my primary resource. I also watched a few videos by Prf. Messer and received 2 practice exams from a friend, which helped me realize my weak areas. I did not take any classes/training. I have 10 years of hobby/enthusiast experience, during which I've built, fixed and upgraded several PC's, and have generally kept up with PC technology throughout that time. This really helped me pass the A+ with minimal studying, but I believe a resource like this book is absolutely necessary to pass the exam.
This book had a lot of info which I already knew, but at times the book seems more like the title should be a "How to use a PC" book, which was a little disappointing (I didn't pay for that). I DID learn new and useful things though, that's for sure!
I've been told that NO book has "everything you need." I don't know if that's true, but it probably is. I did experience "cluelessness" on the exam, that is, things I've never seen/heard of before, despite having read this book cover to cover, and having taken the CD-ROM practice exams. The CD-ROM worked for the most part. It includes PDF's of the entire book by chapter, and VERY USEFUL practice exams of both the essentials exam (701) and practical exam (702). There was an additional feature on the CD-ROM which has more questions but it kept crashing in Windows 7, despite trying several compatibility modes for the program. The book itself has a few minor errors also. It would have been nice if a correction list for this book had been posted somewhere, like the manufacturer's product page for this book.

Needing to review for the exam with less than a month to go, I've trusted this publisher's study guides. I have tons of computer expertise, but have never needed certifications until now. The book is easy to follow and very clear regarding what will be on the exam and what will not. Images and diagrams are clear although color might have helped for some of them, although I'm pretty sure you'd be hard-pressed to find a study guide with color images. . . I'm just saying. Since it's a larger than most study guide, I wish it came in paperback like most others that I own. Definitely recommend it if you're looking to study for the A+ certification.

this book helped me pass my A+ exam.
my method for studying was to bookmark all the tests at the end of each chapter. then once i could easily flip to each test throughout the book via the sticky notes sticking out...i began taking the tests. If i did poorly on the test i would go and read that chapter. if i did well, i would move on. sure..this isnt a great indicator for exam readyness, but it worked for me.
the book is a great read and offers tons of information. the tests are well written and helped me a lot.
