Inconsistent, poorly formed contentMar 21, 2012
By Brian McGroarty The quality of the printed study content varies significantly. Much of it is spot on; it's up to date and relevant. However, the author often drops into explaining basics that shouldn't be necessary for any computer professional. At other times, the author seems to state opinions and speculation as fact. The book desperately needs review from a technical editor. Much of the content could be excised in order to make a much, much smaller and more focussed book.
The practice exam content is good. Many would do well to purchase that and decide whether they need the remaining content, or whether this set is the best source of that material.
Some of the advertised study content is completely missing from the CD. What's present is difficult to use if you aren't using Windows, as the primary navigation tools are Windows executables. (Really? For platform-neutral content? In 2011?)
All in all, the set seems to have been assembled rather ad hoc, and bulked up with unnecessary material that doesn't justify the list price.

Not all the information was provided as claimedOct 12, 2011
By nitin I wouldn't recommend buying this book set to anyone. In the boxed set they claim to send one CD with - 1. 1200+ practice questions - but there were only 500 of them I assume master exam and practice exam have different set of questions. Otherwise there are only 250 of them) 2. E-Book version of CISSP All-in One - but there is no PDF or any online version of the book present in CD. They have created a folder called "eBook" in the CD but it only contains one html index page
The whole reason of buying Box set is to have access to more practice questions but this purchase did not serve the purpose.
Also in the book few pages are blank. It looks like printing mistake and those pages are just not there.

CISSP bundleFeb 15, 2012

Recieved package fairly fast, the bundle contains lots of information, im sure it will prepare me for CISSP. The packaging is nice as well, which helps protect the items from damage. LOTS of info to learn!
Highly recommend this box set.May 17, 2012
By B. jacobs This set is awesome. I bought this before I went to the boot camp thru Global Knowledge. In all honesty, I didn't study as much as I should've prior to taking the course but found it funny that Global Knowledge issued this book to students as part of the course. The book has a lot of great info and it's written in a manner that makes for easier reading, if that makes any sense. I liked this boxed set mostly for the software that comes with it. I read each chapter in the book once, maybe twice depending on the topic, and then used the practice exam software to help reinforce what I just read. The software is awesome!
With all of that being said, this set is essentially (I really don't want to say worthless here) unusable now because the exam has changed. Meaning, ISC2 changed up the domains and content on the exam beginning January 1st. They added content on VM technology and cloud computing -- neither of which are touched in this boxed set.
While I would highly recommend this boxed set to anyone wanting the CISSP certification, I can't recommend this set due to the change in the exam. A lot of the material hasn't changed but there's a good portion that did and you don't want to chance a $600 exam on something like this.
Good luck to everyone planning to take this exam! I passed on my first try thanks in large part to this boxed set.
HallucinatoryApr 21, 2012
By C. Grebe The book contains information of widely varying quality, and enormous quantity. I haven't taken the CISSP yet, but from what I hear, this is the book to study.
It's certainly not a good book for information about real computers, or real computer/information security. Much of the technical information is either extremely general, or factually incorrect. I'm very certain Ms. Harris makes up explanations which fit her view of how systems work, or presents analogies as fact. What they are are factoids; fact-like objects, easily mistaken for the real thing.
Consider this snippet, regarding the ring trust model: "So, when a process from bucket 0 needs its instructions to be executed by the CPU, the CPU checks the bucket number (ring number) and flips a bit indicating that this process can be fully trusted."
Nothing of the sort happens. CPUs do not "check" anything, and "flip a bit" to indicate that anything can be trusted. The last operating system that had such a high degree of hardware interaction was Multics.
We're all entitled to our own opinions, but not our own facts, and the above is not a generalization, it's a factual error. Or a deliberate misstatement. If Ms. Harris presented the facts of the situation, that such a model is rare in the extreme and non-existent in modern commercial architectures (the only ones a CISSP is likely to run into on the job), that would be fine. But she doesn't.
Here's another falsehood masquerading as generality: "There is a difference between instructions and data." Actually, there is NO difference between instructions and data to the CPU, and that's the root of much security evil.
And another: "Although a CPU is a piece of hardware, it has its own instruction sets (provided by the operating system) that are necessary to carry out its tasks."
Once again, an abstraction which turns to falsehood. CPU instruction sets are native to the CPU, and don't come from the operating system at all. The operating system is just a program, a program which runs programs for the user.
I'm giving this a 2-star rating, because of the practice questions. I hope that based on the twelve hundred pages of miscellany in this book I pass the exam. The contents prove my earlier thought that the CISSP is nothing to get worked up about.
Ms. Harris, for her part, makes her living writing certification manuals, which is good for her. She could never get hired in a real security job.
