Cert Flash Cards online CCNA Security 640-553 provides 3 types of questions, randomized, all the questions in one session, or one category at a time. I started by working through the category questions, because I could focus on one topic then went to the randomized. Long term memory is reinforced by incrementing longer periods of time between the rehearsing a set of facts or concepts.
I like that you are provided with the author's answer and allowed to grade yourself. This prompts you to question why you put the answer you did and why the author worded her/his answer the way they did.
The explanation provided with the answer is informative: helping you to master the subject more completely. There is a fun factor to this that may help those with attention deficit challenges that make it hard for them to completely read books.
I tested with an IPhone as well as on a Samsung Blackjack II. I could sign on with the Blackjack, but could not get the start button to activate. The IPhone however worked great, just like on a PC. This is a great plus, since flash cards are a perfect study tool for mobile learning.
There are exhibits that display actual configurations to evaluate. This shows you real configuration examples, something you will need to be able to read and process quickly, particularly if you go on to the professional or expert level Cisco certifications.
I give this product, authored by Brian D'Andrea, a strong 5 stars for what it is trying to accomplish. It should be used, of course, in conjunction with the suggested reading and some hands on experience with actual Cisco equipment.

After getting my CCNA this summer, I was unsure if I should go for the CCNP or branch out on the other CCNA certs... I ended up studying for the CCNA security, I believe security is in high demand right now and will always be in high demand. I love the fact that these flash cards are online. Anywhere I have access to a computer with internet I have access to the flash cards and never have to remember to bring them with me. As far as the actual flash cards them selves, I loved how they were broken down into different category's vs just having a big pile of flash cards (you can go through them that way also). Some questions that I did know the answer to I missed cause I though some of the questions could have been worded a lil better. After you answer the question I loved how it gives you a detailed reason why the correct answer is correct (great for learning). I am very satisfied with this product.

These flashcard questions are a worthy preparation tool for the CCNA Security concentration exam, 640-553. Areas of focus include commands for Cisco ISR routers, VPNs, firewalls, cryptography and encryption standards. These questions offer preparation for the exam, and will also sharpen strategic thinking and analytical skills which are vital for both network design and support environments.
Subject categories include layer two attacks and access control lists since insuring network security is examined in depth at distinct OSI layers. There are also questions on social engineering, footprint analysis and reconnaissance attacks. These are all considerations which must be kept in mind for building and maintaining a secure infrastructure. These questions are interactive and the answers are supplied by the individual. This is a beneficial technique that will help master both the material and information security concepts. On a scale from 1-5, these flash cards receive a 5, as they will help develop the skill set needed for identifying and preventing potential vulnerabilities before they emerge as a threat.

I'm actively studying for the Cisco 640-553 CCNA Security test. Finding time to study can be difficult so when I received this I was anxious to get started.
I received the retail version which comes in a small box (large paperback size). As previous reviews have stated this seems to be a waste of cardboard. All that is included is a card with the site information and an activate code. InformIT needs to scale back the packaging to something along the lines of a greeting card.
Setting up the account at [...] was easy and straightforward. The interface is easy to navigate and getting started only took a few minutes.
You can tailor your studying by choosing Randomize (50 questions from all categories), Full (All questions), By Category or Custom (You pick).
Overall the questions are in line with other prep tools that I've used.
You are presented the question and given an area to type your answer. Answers and explanations provided are well written and easy to grasp.
There is the occasional issue with the questions. One question asked about two protocols and the answer only listed one. However the explanation listed both.
I also tried accessing the site via my iPhone. This worked great with one drawback. Some questions have an attached figure (usually a network map or configlet). On the iPhone when I tried to access the figures I was greeted with a 404 error. The figures work with no issues when I access the site from my PC.
At the end of each test you are presented an easy to understand scoreboard listing your score and the number of questions in each category that were asked. You can use this information to tailor your future tests by eliminating categories that you score well on.
This product is a very good enhancement for test prep. It should not be the main study material but it definitely has a spot. Since you can now access the site from mobile devices, I have no excuse not to study on the fly.
UPDATE (08/06/09) - The publisher contacted me directly. You gotta love the Internet! They've corrected the issue displaying figures that I previously mentioned. Now the product works flawlessly on the iPhone as well as the PC. They've certainly impressed with the quick turnaround.
UPDATE: (12/28/09) - This product helped me pass the Cisco CCNA Security test!

Every once in a while a product comes across my desk that I just really don't expect or know why it came to land on my desk, but what I do know is that sometimes these products are just neat, this is one of those products.
CertFlashCardsOnline.com is a (as the name suggests) Certification Flash Cards Online. The particular pack I received was the CCNA Security 640-553.
I have no understanding of the CCNA, even though I was at one point well versed in all things Cisco Routers, but I figured InformIT was really wanting a review of the overall system, so that is what I am writing. The system is actually pretty nice. The site is a bit sparse of any flare or pazazz, but really I see that as a good here. Signing up was simple, just enter some information and get a password. Once your in the possibilities are endless!
Each pack comes with a code, just enter the code and bam! you own the pack of flash cards. My pack had 250 flash cards in all. From what I can tell on InformIT.com there are a bunch of packs you can choose from, and there seems to be a growing supply, which means if you don't see one you need, it might show up sooner than later.
I was surprised to see that the boxed version (which I received) is priced the exact same as the digital version. Both only provide you with a code to use on the site, so really the packaged version is just a waste of cardboard and paper. Save yourself the time and buy the digital version and get your code right away.
