The ALS Security+ text is a bit dated but does a good job of covering the fundamentals of network security - which is what the Security+ certification is all about. The topics covered are still mostly current (fundamentals remeber) - and if the instructor can't bring some of the topics up to date, they should not be teaching the class in the first place. Instructor support, slides, labs, etc. is pretty good. Wish there was an ebook version.

I wouldn't have chosen this on my own, but the class I'm taking required it. The instructor admitted it's a little out of date, but all of his plans are from this book. He has updated his lectures with new information. I'm not sure I would depend on this 100%, but it seems to be okay.
